…Mexico city’s new Jumex Museum by David Chipperfield.

I like looking up on staircases.

IMG_0945 IMG_0946

Details, details, details.

IMG_0947 IMG_0951

Lines.

IMG_0952

Yeah, I like looking down on them too.

IMG_0963 IMG_0964 IMG_0968

The museum is right across the Soumaya museum so you get a nice view from one to another.

…and this is where suddenly my camera changed from RAW to small JPEG. Okay, yeah, it was me… dunno how. FML!!

The museum. Reminiscent of a factory… a very posh factory.

Yeah, I still go vinyl hunting!

No, I don’t think they were useful in any way. That dude just seems more confused.

13

14

Jews… those who are kinda far but so close from being amish.

18

Crafts, crafts, crafts.

22

I like street chatter.

23

I don’t think that was his car, but he was quite comfortable.

Ukuleles are so mainstream, Jaranas are today’s thing!

30

31

I like to photograph children in the streets, sometimes they’re just playing, sometimes they’re working, which kinda pisses me off. They shouldn’t be there!

32

Skateparks make me happy.

33

I took that photo and he greeted me then, even though I didn’t know him, quite cool guy.

Just to feel some fresh air.

Does anyone know any good use for an Ilford Delta 3200 120 roll film? I’m eager to use that film sometime soon.

Cheers 😉

… yeah, it died for a while, but it’s back and here’s some pictures.

01

I did a shoot for Fernanda’s dog, Kahlua. Quite fun but, hell! I wouldn’t do a lot of these shootings, animals are quite a pain to photograph… but still fun, don’t get me wrong.

02

She liked the bushes. Dunno why, maybe the shade and not so hot.

03

Random finds around the shooting spot.

12

Obligatory self portrait.

All photos were done with Kodak E100VS cross processed, funky results! but such a shame that there’ll be no more color reversal film by Kodak. Anyway, got some B&W film to scan, later!

this thing I used to do…

nah… I haven’t stopped shooting film… or digital, or whatever. In fact I got a polaroid pack as a present. Something I remember wanting as a kid was a polaroid camera, but mom always said it was too expensive, and nowdays it’s even more expensive and hard to get your hands on some Impossible Project film, at least here in Mexico. As for cameras, well i got a great deal and got a One Step Flash for less than $15 dlls. I just don’t want to waste all exposures on stupid things. First frame:

Me, April 6 00:00, 30 years old exactly…

The next sequence of photos were done in a time lapse that I ignore and can only realize that I’ve been a poor photographer. Anyways…

Dad… I have no Idea where this was taken, that’s why I can’t realize how much time has passed since I took this photos.

Somewhere in Reforma Ave. Mexico city.

Mazamitla.

My favourite place for doors and passersby.

I really have to stop taking these photos.

Experimenting on heavy contrast scenes.

Alondra at her office.

Again. If i can remember well, we were about to go to a party, lots of sushi and free drinks. Despite the free drinks, I ended up sober… as usual.

I’m surprised by how disperse in time this shots are…

Farmers market.

Eating seeds or something.

After shooting this I noticed a quite peculiar guy in the corner, just raised my camera to take a photo and suddenly the guy starts yelling at me… I just turned around and kept shooting… weird guy!!

Gossip…

uhmmm… yeah, that…

Sometime in your life you have to take a photo like this one.

Christmas time and skulls.

Just kids playing.

Look up… there’s always stuff going on there.

Something tells my that I have a shitty scanner.

Back in the city… typical subway shot.

Misfocused… does that word exists?

How it starts and how it ends, that’s life.

Walking downtown…

I did a photo shoot for a friend and we got some unusual props, like a fish.

Shot with an 18mm, I don’t use that lens that much, f4 and still vigneting… I like that!

This is at Basilica de Guadalupe… people go looking for hope.

Faith…

Photographer nun…

Insert pre-Hispanic dancers here.

All the way from Ecuador.

Don’t know if he was coming from work or going to…

More gossip…

…and more faith…

You can always find Mariachis singing Las Mañanitas.

Kids Playing… they always find a way and never can get enough.

Now I know where I can find palms for sale.

Waiting at the barbershop… and yeah, that’s me at the background waving goodbye… ok, not really waving… just me. I need a coffee… ’til next time! hopefully not in six months!

Some photos in this post are from quite long ago, some others are from not so long ago, that makes this post a little random in subject, but still I hope you enjoy it. The Holga keeps rockin’!

Gay parade…

Not so tough gay guy.

Avatar… nice try!

Lots of colours

even more colours…

I guess this is the first architecture shot I’ve done in a long time!

Brokeback mountain cowboy?

nice evening with friends, beers and jazz music!

Alexis…

Erwin…

totally random shot…

recording some stuff

Floun… and for some reason I love this photo.

I was reading some stuff about photos being classic without the need of being sharp… I dunno but I like this photo even if it’s totally blurred out.

Hanna… piece of cake!

Couldn’t be happier!! Luvin’ her so much! though she doesn’t like this photo… 🙂

cheers y’all!

Deja Vu

I like photos of the same places but at different times, it’s like documenting the time over a little piece of the earth, I’ve done this a couple of times and well… its cool actually…  like this in ’06 and this back in ’07… did someone moved that bench? and what about those cranes?… I remember takin this photo while on a World Press Photo exhibition…

same place, Norman Foster exhibition, a couple of years after…

same place but different angle…

yes, I did a shot like this one too years ago… same place…

no, this shot is completely new, I don’t see the point in taking a photo of your son in a fountain… anyway…

I guess this photo would’ve turned out better if it was totally vertical, but well, sometimes you don’t have the time to perfectly compose your photos, specially not in street…

at the Norman Foster exhibition… a scale model from the Reichstag…

another scale model but from Beijing’s airport…

at the museum where the exhibition was held… just walking around and observing…

I really don’t know if that thing is comfortable.

Something that gets me mad, kids “working” in the streets… my father had to go through that too when he was young…

contrast… kids working for money to bring home… one block away, people throwing away money buying latest fashion stuff, plain luxury, just to gain some social status…

Nuns… they always get me in a good mood…

I think they noticed me… nah!…

drinks and snacks…

Tlaquepaque… nice place to just walk around, have lunch, go shopping…

uncomfortable couple moment…

Ajijic… every time I go there to visit my grandparents I go take a walk… just the best thing you could do there…

My cute little nephew Paula!!

Isn’t she beautiful??

by the lake…

nice place to enjoy some Coronas!

it was my father’s birthday so we went get some breakfast, take a walk and just chill a little bit…

taking a nap in public makes you an easy target…

Paula and my dad…

fishing lessons…

again… kids working… it sucks and gets me mad!

ahhhh love love love… I have to admit that is a cool place to hang out with your significant other…

dam… leap forward to christmas time… my cousin Israel and his french gf Marine… this is at the top of the Cerro del Cubilete which is said to be just in the middle of all Mexico…

my sister and my brother taking photos… my brother just bought an E-P1 and he seems to enjoy the ease of use the camera brings…

Montse, my little cousin with Marine’s dog… she’s super sweet, always smiling and that stuff…

nice hat and cool camera…

Israel and Marine again… he was so curious about the AE-1P, not that you see those cameras these days…

the view from the top of the mountain…

the remains of the farmer’s market…

learning to play a song…

arriving?… again… same place as this photo…

waiting for something maybe…

dunno… maybe an Elliott Erwitt tribute? I love his work with dogs…

more dogs…

very friendly ones actually!

good ol’ cowboy…

coffee…

just sneaking through open windows…

cute, isn’t he?…

I think this was the first real post in a while… good lord, the space between some shots on these rolls might be months! I need to take out that camera more often!… I still have some shots from the Holga I’ll be posting soon. So keep an eye for them!

Cheers!

mhhh… I remember when my friend told me her little sister was born… now she’s 3 years old…

all her little friends at the kindergarten

sneaking ti get child’s reaction

Janet again

girl in blue sweater… just take a look at her through this photos!

just one more!

okay, hilarious!

they always smile!

okay… not always, she was a little bit shy, but nice… she liked the cake!

I just made this slide show today, it’s from a lot of photos I took on a holiday in Andalusia back in 2006 during the holy week. I edited these photos in Aperture 2 with the trial version but never could export them because I never registered the software… dumb me! Anyway, iMovie let me use those photos so finally they’ll see the light!

When I first heard La Llorona by Beirut it reminded me a lot the songs that I heard on this processions, they were some of the most heaviest songs I’ve ever heard!! It was just so overwhelming. If you ever have the chance to attend one of this processions, do it!

I don’t take good photos, I’ve just been to beautiful places…

The other day I was scanning a lot of negatives from photos I took with the Rolleiflex 4 years ago… I don’t know why it took me so long! At that time I got three frames printed for a gift I made for a friend (though it never reached its recipient) and those photos looked great, I love the square frame, it’s very symmetrical (obviously, duh!), compositions are nice and well, it’s a beautiful camera!! Well, I could finally take a look carefully at the images I took with this camera and it definitely has something magical, and obviously the places where I took this photos are magical too! If you haven’t been to this places, well, let me tell you that you oughta go before you leave this world!

Four years have passed since then and I really feel it was few months ago, but still I want so much to go back to this places. These are big memories of great days!

The Alhambra was a dream come true for me, and I have said that many many times, but I really love this place! I felt like I belong there…

I’ve seen this images in books before… but nothing like being there…

So much detail in everything… I can’t even think about how all this was made…

mmmm… I have some sort of fetish for doors… I think it’s my father’s fault…

… it seems like an amazing place to sit and read a book…

uhmmm… no, I don’t have a window fetish… bit the symmetry is amazing…

If my mind is not playing tricks on me this is in Malaga’s Gibralfaro… damn! Malaga is just beautiful, I think 75% of the population are women!! Of course I wanna go back there!…

I remember one night I was hanging out with some girl friends then suddenly they all disappeared… yeah, Antonio Banderas was hanging around and they saw him… sure, big deal!

…texture…

You can easily find this kind of design in modern architecture… how some things prevail…

SYMMETRY #FTW

I love how this big blocks emerge in the scenery…

looking up…

Doors, windows… whatever! they look cool with all that ornamentation…

Walking through this narrow alleys in Cordoba was amazing… getting lost and just enjoying… ahhh…

Sevilla…

The cathedral is amazing… gothic architecture…

The Giralda… the landlord of the place I was staying at in Madrid told me that a man once went up in a motorcycle… there are no stairs inside, just ramps…

The Alcazar… the most beautiful gardens you could ever been to…

Inside the Alcazar…

Next time I’ll use a level… I swear…

These people were geometry masters and stunning craftsmen!

Sorry, I can’t avoid it!! Door fetish!

The Giralda at night…

Barcelona was another city I was so eager to visit… Gaudi’s architecture is totally out of this world, he saw things differently, I’m sure of that! The shapes he conceived are totally shocking, he cared for details as much as he did for overall design and he had one big and true love… architecture… nothing else!

The Sagrada Familia… well… nothing, absolutely nothing compares to it!!

…still in construction…

damn! dirty scans!

FYI this is also a door!

The temple has two main facades, each dedicated to a theme, one to the birth and other to the passion of Christ… guess which one is this…

Casa Batlló…

…all comes from nature…

Casa Milà…

a.k.a. La Pedrera

mmmhh… awful scanning…

nothing has the same shape… details…

Some rooms inside the building are decorated according to the time when it was first used…

Parc Güell…

Modern architecture in Barcelona is also amazing!

Forum Building by Herzog & de Meuron…

I did this shot in digital as well… dunno which I like better…

hanging around Parque Diagonal Mar…

you could see this cranes all around the city…

Dali’s Museum in Figueres… just watch this, I can’t say more about the man…

The Barcelona Pavillion by Mies van der Rohe… enough with saturation… minimalism is also amazing! more than beautiful!

Switch to slide film…

Less is More… some people just don’t get that!

damn!… someone please remind me the name of this building!!

okay… not minimalism… but amazing!! Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao…

I swear this is the original image with absolutely no photoshop… Velvia 50… I doubt there’s another kind of film with such saturation!

This photo is so different from the rest in this blog… but when I saw this man I knew I had to take a photo of him! I asked and it didn’t seem he liked the idea… but I like how the photo turned out…

…geez!!… I’ll never leave that amount of film without being scanned! anyway… this brought a lot of memories, beautiful memories!!

cheers
